Every link is cut from wire, bent, soldered shut and filed before the next one goes on. Twenty-six hours for a 44cm chain, which is why there are only ever four or five of these a year.
The clasp is a plain hook rather than a bolt ring, because a bolt ring is the part that fails and the part nobody can fasten in the dark. This one you can do with your eyes shut and one hand cold.
Worn short it sits on the collarbone. Doubled it sits at the sternum. It is heavy, deliberately, and most people stop noticing that in about a week.
