The stone came out of a brooch nobody had worn since the seventies. A bezel would have made it safe and made it look like a bezel; claws leave the rough sides of the cut visible, which is the only interesting thing about the stone.
Four claws, cut from the same wire the chain is drawn from, burnished down individually. It takes twice as long as a bezel and I would argue every time that it is worth it.
Hung on the Bruntsfield chain, at 70cm, so it sits below the collarbone rather than at the throat.
